Consultancy

I am available for a limited amount of private consultancy work related to the preservation of films, videotapes and sound recordings, and cinema projection and sound. My past clients have included two UK universities, a major public sector film archive and two private companies. The areas in which I am able to offer advice and support are:

  • Preservation of original film, videotape and sound recordings;
  • Health and safety issues related audiovisual media collections, e.g. the safe storage and handling of nitrate film;
  • Copying and digitising media for preservation and access;
  • Collections management;
  • The specification, design and installation of cinema projection systems to accommodate 'legacy' picture and sound formats, and to show archive prints to the technical standards demanded by archives;
  • Training film archive technical staff and cinema projectionists.
